About Us

The McKernon Group is an environmentally responsible Vermont custom home builder devoted to the finest quality, sustainable building practices that encompasses a wide variety of construction styles. The company was founded in 1987 by former owner, Jack McKernon, and his partner, Kevin Birchmore. Expanding the business to its present status, Jack retired in 2011 at which time, Kevin became president and Justus Cameron joined Kevin as part-owner of The McKernon Group.  Our company’s reputation is based on distinctive home designs, quality workmanship and customer service. With 45 employees working in various capacities, we go well beyond the typical profile of a residential construction company.

The McKernon Group  is located in a beautifully restored antique barn in Brandon, Vermont.  Once part of the state owned Brandon Training School, the building reflects the charm and tastefulness of our craftsmen featuring wide pine floors, exposed beams and reclaimed wood paneling.  Our hometown of Brandon Vermont has recently created a wonderful web page that gives you much information about our area. Our office building has wide-open spaces, colorful trim, wood beams, and wide pine floors.  “Under one roof” you will find headquarters for a network of professional contractors and artisans involved in  design, general construction, timber framing, energy audits, spray foam insulation and solar energy saving projects. In adjacent buildings we house our custom cabinet shop, panel shop, and storage for equipment, tools and material.
