Founded in 1987 by Jack McKernon and Kevin Birchmore, The McKernon Group was built on a commitment to quality craftsmanship and custom building excellence. Over the years, our name has become synonymous with prestige, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Every McKernon-built project is a testament to the pursuit of perfection and timeless design.
In 2007, Justus Cameron joined the team. Justus graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology with a BS in construction management. His addition to the team brought a fresh vision and expertise to the Group. When Jack retired in 2011, Justus stepped into the role of owner/partner alongside Kevin, continuing the legacy of exceptional craftsmanship. With Kevin’s retirement at the end of 2024, Justus became the sole owner, steering the company forward.
Under Justus’s leadership, The McKernon Group will continue to uphold the standard of excellence it’s known for, while embracing new technologies, innovative techniques, and sustainable building practices.
Our headquarters are located in a McKernon restored antique barn in Brandon, Vermont. Under one roof our skilled team includes an in-house architect, master carpenters, and expert cabinetmakers. We also take pride in our specialized divisions—Green Earth Energy, which focuses on solar power and heat pumps, and Urethane Foam Operations, our spray foam insulation division—ensuring we meet the evolving needs of modern construction.
