This addition was built by dismantling a barn and moving its timber frame to the present location. The beams were taken apart and each connection was assigned a letter and number for seamless reassembly. This added living space to an 18th century farmhouse, creating a multi-level great room with a loft and an accessory garage on the lower level.

This Vermont farmhouse needed a major makeover. Appreciating the simple lines of the vernacular, the idea was to make it “true”, and restore it, but not to change the overall look of the house. Approaching from the front of the house, you hardly notice the garage addition. This couple also chose to do some major renovations to the back and exterior of the house because of the lovely view and now this mountainside home sits more appropriately in its setting.

Many of the old homes were built very close to the roads, so when the owners went from vacationers to full-timers, they chose to build an addition in the back for privacy and additional living space. The 3 story addition melds into the style of the farmhouse and it adds spaciousness to the smaller rooms typically found in old houses. A rustic log cabin style home was redesigned with major exterior and interior changes. The unique arch entrance was made in our cabinet shop along with the new kitchen cabinets and baths. Keeping it simple and open with clean lines, stone and wood, the changes made in this house were a great plan for a growing family.
