Current Project
Created by the McKernon Design Team, this home is being built on a heavily wooded site for a couple who are retiring to Southern Vermont. This couple had many of their own ideas which were inspired by photos of past homes built by the McKernon Group. The McKernon Design Team helped guide these clients to create the beautiful custom home now under construction.
One interesting aspect of this home is a Russian Masonry Heater being built in the Great Room. This is a highly efficient airtight stone fireplace intended for a hot fire with a clean burn which gives off radiant heat. This fireplace chimney has a series of baffles which pull the heat out of the exhaust. The stone fireplace mass absorbs the heat of the fire and it radiates gradually back into the room.
This 2-story house of 3,168 sq feet will include a living room with a cathedral ceiling to the second floor accessible by a unique timber staircase; a custom kitchen by our division, Vermont Woodlands Cabinets; 3 bedrooms; 2 3/4 baths; a walk-out basement; a workshop.
